Support Recycling:  Buy Products Made from Recycled Materials

You may not know it, but in the last several decades, artists, corporations and manufacturing companies have begun using recycled materials and items to make new, interesting and ingenious products. 

Many of these products are everyday household items, and some you would never suspect are made from recycled materials. 

From kitchen implements and snow shovels to clothing, shoes, outerwear, rugs, and bedroom curtains, recycled products come in all shapes, colors, sizes and categories. 

You can even buy art that is made from recycled household items like mixers, toilet bowls and curtain rods. 

Once you know these products exist, it makes sense to look for products made by these companies to support the work these companies do to protect the environment and serve their customers.

Not only do they help the environment by reducing the amount of trash in our garbage dumps, but they also make and sell products that are less expensive for the consumer. 

Believe it or not, you can find everything from park benches to entire houses built from recycled materials.

There are many more products made from recycled materials.  You can find a recycling products guide in your local library or online.  The manufacturers and suppliers of these products can get certified so that their products are included on this list. 

You will find products in many diverse categories, including paper, plastics and rubber, oil, metals, wood, glass, construction and packaging material, and more.

This grass roots initiative is larger than you might think.  It includes over 700 manufacturing businesses, and regional vendors in all areas of the United States and Canada.  Products include cameras, golf accessories, gold bags, sand boxes, kayaks, stadium seats, bicycle racks, toys, whistles, yo-yos and playground equipment.

Some companies even reclaim wood and make cutting boards from the scraps.  Others reclaim old hardware, nails and other items from demolition sites, clean the items and sell them to those who want that old-fashioned look in their new construction. 

From houses insulated with old tires, to pens made from recycled plastic, the recycling movement is alive and well.

With a little effort, you can find and buy these products and support recycling, while saving yourself money – a win/win situation for everyone concerned!
