Learn More About your Local Recycling Center

Many people do not understand what really happens at their local recycling center.  It is not just a place where they gather other people's trash.  It is a place where people are helping to stop landfills from growing and helping to reduce pollution.  The recycling center is a wonderful place and you may benefit from learning more about it.

Separating Your Recyclables

You may not understand why you have to separate out your recyclable materials.  You look at it as a hassle and would rather take the easy way out and just throw everything into the trash.  After all, the trash collector is not picky about what is in the garbage bag.  They don't expect you to separate everything out.  This is where understanding your local recycling center can help.  Who knows, after learning a little more you may not see recycling as such a hassle.

Recycled materials need to be separated.  That is because each type of material is processed differently.  When something is recycled it is broken down and processed to become something useable again.  For example, glass is broken and melted and then turned into new glass.  It is important that the materials be recycled so the new product is a good products.

Your Local Center

Your local recycling center is likely just a place where the materials are collected.  They collect the recycled materials, separate them and then send them off to be processed.  Some centers may actually do the processing as well.  However, the major point of a recycling center is to collect the recyclable materials.

They collect through a few different means.  They usually place bins or give bins to people to use for their recyclables.  They will either supply a few different bins for each type of material or stipulate that materials need to be separated.  This makes separating and sorting back at the center and easier job.  They then come around, just as the regular trash removal, once a week and collect your recycled trash.  In some places this may even be a free service.

Your local center will probably be more than happy to give you a  tour.  They may also explain how recycling works and the benefits it has on the environment and on you.  They can give you a wealth of information.  All you need to do is contact your local recycling center and start asking questions.
