How to Recycle your Used Guitar

When you have a guitar that you no longer use, no longer can use or no longer want then you have to decide what you are going to do with it.  You can throw it away in the garbage, but you could also try recycling it.  You may be wondering how you can recycle your used guitar, well, read on to find out.

Analyze It First

The first thing you need to do when recycling your used guitar is to look it over.  You want to look for damage.  You want to check out the usability of the guitar.  You should consider the following:

  • Can it still be played?
  • Does it need repair?
  • Would someone else want to use it?
  • Is it worth repairing?

Once you have looked it over you cant hen decide if you will recycle it or try to sell it.

Recycle It

Recycling your guitar should be pretty simple.  You will want to separate the wood from the metal and plastic pieces.  You will recycle each material separately.  Your local recycling center should be able to take the guitar to recycle it.  You can probably just leave it with your weekly recycling waste.

Sell It

If you decide to sell your used guitar you can do this one of two ways.  You can sell it to a store or sell it yourself.

The first thing you need to do before selling it at all, though, is to make sure it is in good condition.  You need to make sure it works and is generally in good condition.  The better the condition, the more you will get for it when you sell it.

You should be able to find a music store that buys used instruments.  If they can resell it to a consumer then you should get a nice amount for it.  However, if it is not in the best shape they will likely use it as a rental, so you will not get as much.  You can check out a few different stores to see where you can get the best price.

When selling to consumers you can place a classified ad or try the internet.  The internet is a great place to sell your used items and you can usually get a nice price for your used guitar.

Whatever way you decide to go with recycling your used guitar, it is much better than throwing it out in the trash.  Recycling is the key to stopping overflowing landfills and to help make the world a better place.
